"Dr. Zuzana Friberg is a fabulous optometrist (eye
check-er-uper)! There are also hip glasses, but I can't comment on those since I already have
plenty. I've had laser eye surgery (PRK. The laser was, in fact, mounted on the head of
a shark. He was a very skilled surgeon). So I carefully have my eyes checked
annually, and thus go to proper opto-checker-uper, not a "how many fingers
am I holding up?" one. Dr. Zuzana went above and beyond - not only did she do the usual comprehensive
check (and was cheerful, enthusiastic, and happy to geek out and explain what
was going on), but she also carefully noted the position of a freckle in my eye
(no, my hair's not red) so that future docs could find it, and gave me
printouts of the shape of my cornea. (These are now my desktop background.
Well, not really.) Oh, and white-water rafting tips. (You know you're in Portland when ...)
I didn't have present need for glasses, so I couldn't avail myself of their
opticianal services (spectacle-monger), but the kind optician kindly tightened

"The best eye exam and eye glasses purchasing experience I have ever
had. Dr. Friberg is the BEST and discussed several options with me, in
my new trifocal-needing, under-30 suckitude. We settled on really high
quality progressives that would blend my changing prescriptions and
make the glasses easier to adjust to, and also recommended frame shapes
and sizes that would make it easier for me to adjust to wacky lenses.
They have, overall, a good range of all quality, fashionable frames.
You'll find the $500+ designer ones, sure, but they also carry more
modestly priced, comparably stylish lines like Nicole Miller -- which I
ultimately went with, given the high price of my "HD" progressive
lenses. When I picked my glasses up, the staff was super caring and
instructed me about how to adjust to the multifocal lenses. My brain
learned within a couple days.. I've been struggling to get the right
prescription for years, and I've finally got a pair of glasses I reach
for, rather than avoid. Even so, Dr. Friberg told me that if I couldn't
adjust to the multifocal lenses, she would swap them for free -- that
my glasses AND prescription were under warranty for 2 years. When
you've just invested in serious lenses, that kind of assurance is

"My wife and I have lived in downtown Portland for the past five years. We used to have our eyes examined and prescriptions filled at a large, well known eye clinic. But we rarely got personalized optical services there for it was more like an assembly line where one size fits all and patrons are numbers. Not only that but on several occasions the lenses they fit me with were totally wrong. It was a huge hassle trying to get my eyes rechecked and the lenses refitted so that I could see out of them. It was time for a change.
When Dr. Zuzana Friberg took over Uptown EyeCare & Optical on NW 23rd and W. Burnside, we decided to check it out. It was the best decision we could have ever made. Dr. Friberg is young, energetic and totally on top of the newest advances in optometry. She is absolutely professional in every respect. I appreciated the time she spent with me, assuring that my prescription was totally correct. Her staff was exceptionally helpful in assisting me purchase the right frames to fit the shape of my face. They dealt with my eye insurance so that I received all the benefits under my policy. It was completely stress free and, as a matter of fact, the entire experience was even enjoyable.

"My wife and I have both used Uptown for glasses, so my review relates to optician service only(not optometrist). We got great service - above and beyond. We both had bad experiences with eye exams elsewhere and as a result both brought bad prescriptions to Uptown. My wife's Rx was
closer to reality than mine - when the glasses were made she could see fine except at distance.She went back to Uptown and they suggested she revisit her optometrist. She did and, on re-exam, they changed her Rx. Uptown processed this as "Dr. error" and made another set of glasses at no charge. My Rx (again, not from Uptown) was ridiculously off. Uptown caught this based on comparison of the Rx to my existing glasses (with which I could see better than 20/20)
